Slow homemaking is something I love to incorporate into my life as a pampered and peaceful stay at home fiancée. Slow homemaking is intentional homemaking purposefully done at a slower pace in order to maximize enjoyment over speed and efficiency.
Whenever I used to make my bed, I always tried to do it as fast as possible, so that I could get to doing other things. But one day, I was feeling a little tired, and I decided to do it slower, and I found I actually enjoyed it so much more! Sure, it took me longer, but that didn't matter because I was enjoying myself.
As homemakers we have the privilege of being able to be as slow as we want because we (usually) have no work meetings to rush to. We don't have to be quick and efficient, we can do all of our homemaking as slowly and peacefully as we want. So here's a few ways you can start incorporating slow homemaking into your everyday life:
Plan your day into sections as opposed to hour by hour
For example, one thing I do is, instead of writing, for example:
9:00-9:15: Make bed
9:15-9:30: Wash dishes
9:30-10:00: Tidy up bedroom
10:00-11:00: Read
11:00-12:00: Start prepping lunch
Instead I would write:
Morning: (9am - 12pm):
Make bed, wash dishes, tidy up bedroom, read, start prepping lunch
This way this will give you more time to relax and greater flexibility over your schedule
Take breaks when needed
You don't need to be accomplishing a homemaking task all in one go! You can easily fold half of the laundry, take a break, then do more. You don't need to complete it all at once.
Listen to music or watch movies while doing your homemaking
I personally love listening to music while doing my homemaking, it makes it feel so much more fun! And watching a movie while prepping for lunch or dinner or doing laundry is a good idea too!
